Rimless, tornado or siphonic: choosing a wall-hung toilet

A wall-hung toilet looks simple: a ceramic form floating above the floor. The decision behind it is less simple. The way the bowl is flushed shapes how easy it is to clean, how it sounds and which cistern and connection it needs.

Rimless

A rimless bowl has no hidden channel under its edge. Water enters through a shaped opening and is guided around the inside of the bowl. Without the rim there is no concealed area where dirt can build up, so the whole surface can be wiped in one movement.

In the ASPEN range, models such as the ASP-B2353 (L 540 × W 370 × H 360 mm) and the ASP-TL-2025 are rimless. The ASP-TL-2008 adds a matte grey or matte black glaze for bathrooms that want a darker accent.

Tornado

A tornado flush sends water into the bowl through angled outlets, so it travels in a swirl rather than falling straight down. The movement is designed to cover the whole inside of the bowl.

The ASP-TL-2029 is one of the most compact tornado models in the collection, with a height of 300 mm. The ASP-TL-15005 uses a Ø100 mm connection, which is useful when the existing pipework requires it.

Siphonic

Siphonic flushing uses the water in the trap to create a siphon that pulls the contents out of the bowl. It is the system used in the ASP-TL-2427 smart toilet, together with an S-trap of 300/400 mm and a 3-inch outlet.

What to check before you choose

• Connection size. ASPEN wall-hung toilets are listed with either a 180 mm or a Ø100 mm connection. Match it to the planned frame and waste pipe.
• Projection. Depths range from 485 mm (ASP-TL-2024) to 540 mm (ASP-B2353). In a small room a few centimetres change how the space feels.
• Frame and flush plate. A wall-hung bowl sits on a concealed frame and cistern. The flush plate is the only visible part, so choose its finish with the mixers in mind.
• Bidet function. If you want an integrated bidet, the ASP-TL-15003 is available in a version with bidet.
